Twice a week during Trinity term, members of the OUYC dinghy squad run casual sailing sessions in the afternoon sun for all members of the university. Students of any ability can enjoy an afternoon on the water in our boats. OUYC owns 12 Firefly dinghies (2-man hiking boats). Sailing takes place at Farmoor Reservoir and students are accompanied by squad members.

Sessions cost £6 (or £15 for the term) and, depending on the experience of those present, will usually involve cruising around with instruction from our more seasoned sailors (many of whom are qualified Dinghy Instructors) with some casual racing at the end if there’s enough interest.

We also hold a Cuppers Competition in Trinity Term (usually around 4th week) which consists of 2v2 team racing competitions. Each team can have a maximum of 1 dinghy squad member to keep it fair! Look out for emails from our Events Secretaries (Amelie and Kylie) to enter this fun event. The cost is £25 per team to cover our costs of running the event but this will usually be covered by your JCR.

Email the Social Sailing Secretary on social-sailing@ouyc.co.uk for more information about beginning sailing or to be added to the mailing list.
